Theoretical Issues in Sign Language Research (TISLR) is a conference where researchers involved in sign language research from around the world present their research findings and discuss them with each other. The first conference was held in Rochester, USA in 1986, and since then it has been held every three years mainly in Europe and the United States.
In 2022, TISLR14 will be held in Japan, hosted by the National Museum of Ethnology under the auspices of the Sign Language Linguistics Society (SLLS). TISLR conferences feature invited lectures, panel discussions, research presentations, poster presentations, and a five-minute video competition. During the planning process for TISLR14, there will be an on-line forum where researchers can easily exchange ideas with each other.
To participate in TISLR14, you must be a member of SLLS. (The membership fee for SLLS can be paid along with the conference fee when one registers for a TISLR conference.). SLLS aims to promote the study of sign languages on an international scale, and in this capacity provides support and assistance to sign language researchers. TISLR（Theoretical Issues in Sign Language Research）とは、世界各地で手話言語学研究に携わる研究者が、日頃の研究成果を報告し，またそれについてお互いに議論を深める大会です。 1986年の米国ロチェスター市で第１回大会が開催されて以来、欧米を中心に開催されてきました。 音韻論、形態論、統語論、意味論、語用論、社会言語学、言語習得、心理言語学など幅広い領域で研究発表が行われ、世界中から様々な理論的な研究発表を見ることができます。
TISLRは、3年に1度開催され、招待講演、パネルディスカッション、研究発表、ポスター発表、5分間動画コンテスト、そしてTISLRの継続をサポートしているSLLS（Sign Language Linguistics Society）の会議が開催されます。 企画中は、研究者同士が意見交換しやすい交流の場の設定も行います。
TISLR14に参加するには、SLLSの会員であることが必要です。 SLLSは手話の研究を国際的な規模で推進することを目的としており、この立場で手話研究者に支援と援助を行っています。 SLLSはTISLRの組織及び継続を支援しております。SLLSの詳細はこちらをご参照ください。
