In this article, we summarize the literatures related helical/spiral/coiled carbon fibers since 1953 by researchers abroad, concerning the preparations (processes and conditions), morphologies, microstructures, growth mechanisms, and some properties. Finally, the research advance in ceramic nanocoils is also reviewed.
