Due to their chemical stability in air at high temperatures, the metal-transition oxides are very promising materials for thermoelectricity generation. The "misfit" cobaltites with complex crystallographic structures provide a nice illustration of p-type materials already used in thermoelectric devices. This compounds family is described in the present paper.
