Various rare earth elements are used in many electro-ceramic components for improving their electromagnetic properties and reliabilities, while there have been concerns recently about supply of rare earth elements. In this paper, the roles of rare earth elements on improving characteristics of various electro-ceramic components are explained. Then, the current status of efforts for reducing the amount of rare earth elements used in electro-ceramic components is also surveyed.
