As a general term for electroceramics operating at high temperatures, we have proposed a concept called ``High-Temperature Electroceramics". High-temperature electroceramics are indispensable for the development of SiC power modules which are basic components for establishing ``Smart Grids". In this paper, R & D trends are reviewed relating to high-temperature capacitors, high-temperature PTC thermistors, ceramic substrates with high mechanical strength and high thermal conductivity, and highly-reliable joining technology. And finally, the future direction in R & D is discussed.
